From the rubble of a catastrophic earthquake comes an historic opportunity to transform rural poverty into a leading edge 2.0 model for Data Driven, Asset Based Community Development.

Since the wake of Nepal’s massive 8.0 earthquake in April 2015, disaster relief groups have been working to support the most vulnerable with critical aid.
Now it’s time to get local change-makers the tools they need to build sustainable, economically robust futures!
This is where Empowerment WORKS comes in, and where we need your support to create lasting change.

What’s in the works:

Opportunity Nepal (ON) Collaboration Forum – Empowering local resilience!

Preceded by a cultural reception April 14th, on April 15th, ON’s impact rich one day program will unite key government agencies with local women, men and youth to generate timely solutions and realize the opportunity of multi-stakeholder collaboration with a focus on investing in women.  More than an event, ON lays the foundation for the nationwide, year round youth leadership program (more below). See home page for ON event details!

Catalyst Action Training (CAT) – Young women lead the way!

Together with local and strategic partnership organizations, Empowerment WORKS is pleased to announce the launch of the next level of its flagship 7 Stages to Sustainability (7SS) curriculum with the Catalyst Action Training (CAT)  – and thereby empower a locally-driven framework for social change.
Kicking off with the Opportunity Nepal collaboration forum, EW embarks on a bold year-round campaign to bring passionate, young women leaders (“catalysts”) together from across the nation to advance economic resilience in the post-disaster recovery environment through leading edge data collection & community development training.  [Learn more]

Without a more thoughtful approach to disaster aid and aid in general, the very issues that have made Nepal so vulnerable to begin with (and foster Nepal’s dependency-based NGO economy) risk being exacerbated in the current crisis.  Supporting locally-led resilience today is critical for Nepal to recover and thrive–for years to come.
